GraphoGame awarded UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize 2023

xEdu is thrilled to extend heartfelt congratulations to GraphoGame for their outstanding achievement - the UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize for 2023. GraphoGame's remarkable contribution to literacy development among children and adults through an innovative and gamified learning approach has earned them this prestigious international prize.

The UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize recognizes initiatives that promote effective and innovative literacy practices, with a mission to build the foundation for peaceful and sustainable societies. In a world where 1.2 billion individuals lack basic literacy skills, literacy becomes the cornerstone for a brighter future, fostering equality, reducing poverty, and promoting social harmony.

Mervi Palander, Founder and CEO of GraphoGame, expressed her gratitude, saying, "We are thrilled to be honored with The UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize. This recognition underscores the importance of our work and the significance of devising solutions that include those who might otherwise be left behind in education. We have seen firsthand the profound impact literacy has on people's lives."

GraphoGame's journey began in Finland at the University of Jyväskylä and Niilo Mäki Institute, and through global collaboration within Jyväskylä’s GraphoLearn Initiative, it has expanded its reach to numerous languages. Partnerships with esteemed institutions like the University of Cambridge, Yale, A Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), University of Stavanger, and Aix-Marseille have solidified GraphoGame's presence in their respective countries.

Scientific trials have showcased GraphoGame's effectiveness in achieving literacy outcomes equivalent to one-on-one teacher support. With over 5 million downloads and a rapidly growing user base, GraphoGame has become a market leader in multiple countries. Collaborations with governments and NGOs have made the game accessible to children for free, ensuring inclusivity, and the game is also available for offline use.

"In the coming years, we aim to provide early literacy skills for tens of millions of children. The UNESCO award provides us with visibility among governments, NGOs, and companies, accelerating the achievement of our goal," concluded Mervi Palander.

xEdu is proud to celebrate GraphoGame's dedication to addressing the global literacy challenge and making education accessible to all. Thank you for creating a more equitable and literate world.
