Kudos Wonderly!

We are pleased to announce that Wonderly, one of the startups in the 2022 Torino xEdu cohort, has won the Tec de Monterrey Award as one of the five education companies with the greatest impact in LATAM. Wonderly is an all-you-can-learn platform for students aged 8to 18 that teaches digital skills such as coding, programming and robotics through a gamification approach.

Last week, as part of the 9th International Conference on Educational Innovation, the new winners were announced and Wonderly was among them. Leandro Finol, CEO and co-founder of Wonderly, was in Monterrey, as was our CEO Antti Korhonen, who was one of the judges at the world finals of the GESAwards.

The TPrize, awarded by the Institute for the Future of Education of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, is dedicated to startups with great potential for education in Latin America and the Caribbean, and consists of $15,000 and participation in a business growth programme. A feature of the TPrize worth highlighting is that participation is already part of a process that inevitably improves the company.

This is not the only success Wonderly has achieved in recent months.

Following the collaboration between Torino City Lab and xEdu in the NextEdu 2022 acceleration programme, children from Italian schools started using Wonderly in November 2022 and “the kids love it”, says CEO Leandro Finol.

Wonderly is now a fully developed platform in three different languages: English, Spanish and Italian. Teachers do not need to be experts in the field, as Wonderly provides an online tutor who can train teachers on how to use the platform.

The teaching content was made available in both English and Italian in the schools, and the teachers led the digital literacy lessons by using Wonderly as a “flipped classroom” tool. The students learned the content directly on the Wonderly platform and the teachers mainly guided them in this autonomous learning.

Thanks to the support of the Comune di Torino, the project is active in five different schools and is supervised by Federica Castiglioni, Elena Deambrogio and Pier Giorgio Turi. The City of Turin supports the project by initiating all the approval and implementation procedures that fall within its remit and by maintaining contact with the companies involved as well as with the other TCL partners and by contacting the schools in the region and organising the calendar and timetable for classes.

You can find more info about the project here!

Last but not least, Wonderly will also be one of the runners-up selected for this year's Launch and Student Startup Competition, for SXSW EDU 2023! Presented by the Walton Family Foundation, the Launch Startup Competition provides a platform for early-stage startups that want to make a difference in education and impact the future of teaching and learning. In its 12th year, the competition has reached a milestone by welcoming a majority international cohort of finalists with ideas from Finland, Japan, Sri Lanka and Scotland.

The startups selected as finalists will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a panel of industry experts, early adopters, investors and educators at SXSW EDU from 6-9 March 2023 in Austin, Texas. Beyond the competition, finalists and runners-up will receive ongoing support and feedback from the SXSW EDU community.

This year, the Launch Competition will be expanded to include additional opportunities for finalists and runners-up to gain insight and support, as three prizes will be awarded as part of the Launch Competition Spotlight.

Bravo Wonderly!
